HOW TO PURCHASE A PREVIOUSLY USED TRACTOR AND NOT GET LEFT IN THE DUST

Buying any used equipment is always a lottery. The choice of previously used agricultural machinery is a double lottery: it works mostly in difficult conditions, so it breaks down very quickly.

We will tell you how to buy a used tractor so that it will serve you for more than one year.

FIVE BASIC ADVICE TO BUY A USED TRACTOR

Documentation and history. Find out all information about the tractor: who owns it, where it was used, and under what conditions. All the necessary documents should be available. Compare the number on the engine with the number on the passport: they should be the same. For convenience, you can use online services that specialize in the sale of equipment. There are many of them now.

Tires or tracks. Buying a used tractor, make sure that the tires are worn evenly. On some machines, the tires are worn so badly that they cannot be used for a long time. In this case, you have to decide whether you are ready or not to invest more in the purchase of tires for this tractor. Tracked tractors also need to be inspected for wear, especially traction wheels.

External review. The condition of the paint and varnish coating depends on the length and location of the tractor’s use. Examine your future purchase: whether the body is heavily corroded or putty masked under a layer of paint. It is recommended to check the condition of the paint and varnish coating using a thickness gauge.

Then check the hoses for the supply of liquids and compressed air. They should be in a normal condition. Be sure to inspect the steering linkage, lifting cylinders, and towing knee.

Engine. Check engine performance, oil condition, inspect engine compartment.

Condition of the salon. The tractor's internal filling is a sort of litmus test of how it was treated. Do not be lazy to test all indicators, lights, windows, and more. There should be no cracks on the glass, otherwise, it will need to be changed after a while.

When choosing a tractor for your farm, weigh all the pros and cons of each variant; calculate all additional maintenance costs and the potential repair of the used tractor. And we hope that such a thoughtful purchase will only benefit you.
